The LOOOOONG Trip Home

We got a really good snow the day before we were scheduled to leave Utah - and since our flight wasn't leaving until about 3pm, we couldn't pass up a morning of sledding in Sugarhouse Park.



One last chance to play with cousins and get really, really cold before heading back to Texas where snow is seldom seen...

... Who knew that it would take us two days to get there! Apparently the snow storm that made sledding so fun, hit Denver right about the time our plane was supposed to leave so our flight was delayed - and delayed again - and delayed yet again until we had officially missed our connecting flight. We thought about staying in Utah for a couple more days, but by that time it was too late to get our bags off the plane so we finally made it to Denver and stood in line for several hours to find out that there were no open flights to Austin until the 2nd of January. We finally booked a flight to Houston on the 31st and headed off for a few hours sleep in Aurora. Luckily, the plane we were on had mechanical issues so we were able to get vouchers for our hotel and meals - otherwise we would have been camping out in the airport (and as nice as the Denver Airport is, it is not that nice).

Of course, our flight to Houston was delayed several times as well, so by the time we got to Houston it was almost 7pm but we soon discovered that our bags did not get transferred as promised, so they were back in Austin. We called Austin to make sure they held our bags there and rented a car, borrowed some car seats from the airline and were on our way. We got there just in time to ring in the new year!

I'm so glad my parents were on the flight with us - It made things so much easier to have one adult per child! Thanks Mom and Dad! At the end of it all, we had a great time in Utah, but we are soooo glad to be home safe and sound!
